He left His home of glory to be born in a stable. The object of praise and worship, He lived thirty years in obscurity. The Holy One of God, yet He learned to walk and talk. Lord of the universe, yet He was subject to His parents. Creator of the heavens, and He was taught to build things of wood and stone.
He healed the sick, gave sight to the blind; made the deaf to hear and the lame to walk. Lepers were made clean by His touch. He walked on water, stilled a tempest, and made water into wine. He expelled demons and fed thousands and raised lifeless corpses from the grave.
He received children and women and the poor to Himself. He refused no one; not Samaritans, not Gentiles, not tax collectors, or harlots. He walked, talked, and dined with them, freely teaching them all. He did not wink at sin. No one ever preached on sin as He did. Yet sinners felt at ease in His presence.
He taught how to love, to think of a neighbor as self. When compelled to go one mile, He said go another. When slapped upon the one cheek, He said turn the other. He taught forgiveness and prayer for those who had done harm. He taught love for enemies, and then demonstrated what that meant.
He bore our sins and carried our sorrows as they pinned Him on that tree. He felt the pain of our iniquities as flesh was ripped off His precious back. The righteous for the unrighteous. The sinless Son of God, for unworthy sinners. Every tear, every nail, and every single drop of blood had our names written on it. Rejected by His people, falsely accused by His enemies, forsaken by His friends, He went to the cross, alone. His cry, “My God, My God…” Taunted, wounded, and bleeding… He died on that lonely tree.
But the grave could not hold him. He triumphed over death. He ascended back to glory and sat down at the Father’s right hand. He’s now King of kings and Lord of lords. His dominion is everlasting. His kingdom cannot be destroyed. Unlimited power and authority has been given unto Him. All principalities and powers are subject to His command. He is lord of all creation. The winds and the waves obey His voice. The hosts of heaven all attend to His word. No human government is beyond His authority.
And He listens to my prayers.
Exalted now in heaven, He reigns as the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. He’s the Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace. He’s the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, the ruler over the kings of the earth.
And He cares for me.
He is the holy, holy, holy God, before whom Isaiah declared, “Woe is me.” He is the Almighty God who provoked Job to say, “I am vile,” before placing his hand over his mouth. He dwells in inapproachable light, which no man has seen or can see. Ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands of thousands worship Him perpetually day and night. He’s feared by beings far greater in might than all the human powers of the earth combined.
And I sit at His table.
He is the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, the Lamb of God, the First and the Last, the One who lives, and was dead, and is alive forevermore. He owns the keys of Death and Hades.
And I share in His inheritance.
His name is Jesus. And what a glorious name this is! It is the name that is above every name. At this name every knee should bow. Indeed, it is the only name given among men by which we must be saved.
I ask you, my friend, “Do you know Him?”
His name is Jesus. And I know Him and He knows me. He’s my Lord, my Savior, and my Redeemer. He’s my life, my joy, and my all in all. He died for my sins and rose to give me new life. He’s coming back someday to take me home.
And I ask you, “Do you know Him?”
His name is Jesus. What a name! All blessing and honor and glory and power be to the exalted name of Jesus!
