Why I am a Christian

Recently I was asked, “Why are you a Christian?” The question was not why I had decided to obey the gospel, but rather why I am a Christian and not a Muslim, a Buddhist, a Hindu or a follower of some other world religion. As such religions multiply in our country this question will be asked more often, and we must be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks us (I Peter 3:15).

Jesus said, “On this rock I will build my church.” Peter had just identified Him as “the Christ, the Son of the living God,” and this truth was the rock on which the church was to be built. Local churches may be led either by godly or by not-godly men—that is, by men who are most concerned for God and things of the Spirit or by men whose concerns are primarily human and temporal. Such churches can be distinguished by several factors.
